Outgrowing WooCommerce

International Tool Industries is an Irish-owned supplier of power tools, hand tools, and equipment, serving hardware shops and builders' merchants across Ireland and the UK. With more than 500 active accounts, over 20,000 products, and brands like Makita and Benman, its WooCommerce site had reached the limit of what it could handle.

Plugin fatigue and security risks

The WooCommerce setup leaned hard on premium plugins for search, payments, and product management — each one adding cost, security risk, and extra upkeep. Speed dropped under the weight of 20,000+ products, and the plugin-based setup made custom work hard and turned updates into a constant source of surprises.

Monthly costs were high, too. WooCommerce hosting, premium plugin licences, and a separate search subscription all added up fast. Price and stock data from the MAM system did not sync in real time, which caused order issues and repeated manual fixes that no longer matched the size of the business.

The vision

ITI chose Flyingcode as its long-term tech partner to rebuild the platform from scratch. This was not a simple migration, but a full redesign on modern headless architecture. Every feature from the old site would be kept and improved, with real-time MAM integration at the core.

The goal was clear: faster speed, lower monthly costs, stronger security with no plugins, and a system that could grow without limits. Flyingcode offered ITI a preferred rate built on years of trust, proven delivery, and a long-term commitment.

Modern headless architecture

The frontend is built with Next.js for fast, server-rendered pages that handle 20,000+ products without hurting the customer experience. The custom admin dashboard runs on Node.js, cleanly split from the storefront — a truly headless setup where each part can scale on its own.

Data architecture

The data layer models more than 30 linked collections — products with nested categories, orders with return tracking, users with role-based access, B2B partners with their own credentials, support tickets with threaded comments, and full store settings.

Intelligent product search

Search runs on a smart search engine with relevance ranking and filters across brand, tags, highlights, and offers. Search analytics track queries, sales, and click-through rates — replacing the old third-party search subscription with something faster, stronger, and better for sales.

Real-time MAM integration

Price and stock data come straight from MAM by API in real time, ending stale prices and cutting the risk of overselling. Orders sync back to the ERP system automatically, with retry logic and status tracking for any failed syncs.

Currency is set automatically from the user's location, with full multi-currency support already built in and ready to switch on as the business grows.

Zero plugin dependencies

With no WordPress plugins to update, patch, or pay for, there is far less to attack. Login uses encrypted tokens, role-based access, and rate-limited endpoints. The result is a setup that is cleaner, safer, and much cheaper to run.

Email alerts, SMS verification, and push notifications are all built in, with no third-party plugin subscriptions. Flyingcode maintains the whole stack as one system rather than a loose set of tools and add-ons.

A complete makeover, inside and out

This was not just a backend rebuild. The whole customer experience was redesigned with a modern approach — cleaner layouts, simpler navigation, and a clear focus on the buyer at every step. Every WooCommerce feature was carried over and improved: three-level category navigation, smart search with filters, product favourites, recently viewed items, and a cart that checks pack sizes and applies MAM bulk pricing automatically.

B2B partner integration

B2B partners connect straight to the platform through a dedicated API with token-based login, adjustable price markups, and webhook alerts. Shopify partners get automatic product sync, and the same flexible API also supports non-Shopify partners — enabling dropship and wholesale at scale.

Enterprise admin dashboard

The admin dashboard has more than 15 modules — product management with CSV import and export, order tracking with ERP sync and returns, a support ticket system with Kanban boards, banner and merchandising tools, release notes, error logging, sales analytics, and full store settings.

Every module is built for speed. Bulk actions, inline editing, and real-time updates mean the team spends less time on admin and more time on the commercial side of the business.

Built-in support system

The support ticket system has threaded comments, file attachments, internal notes, assignment tracking, and email alerts — a complete support workflow with no need for a separate tool.

This built-in workflow keeps support close to orders, accounts, and operations data, so the team can reply fast and handle issues in context rather than across separate systems.

Native apps on every platform

The platform ships as native apps on the Apple App Store and Google Play, plus a Progressive Web App. We put real effort into making it feel right on every device and screen size, from phones to tablets to desktops. Push notifications keep both buyers and staff up to date in real time.

The homepage has editable banners with scheduling, merchandising tiles, and featured-product rules, all managed from the admin dashboard. The responsive design was tested across dozens of devices for a consistent, polished experience everywhere.

The final product

The finished platform replaces a costly WooCommerce setup with a modern, custom-built system that is faster, safer, and much cheaper to run. Prices and stock update automatically from MAM, ending the old routine of emailing Excel sheets back and forth and updating the site by hand. The team manages products, orders, partners, and support from one dashboard, with no developer needed day to day. Native apps on iOS and Android put the full buying experience in customers' pockets, with passkey login built in. Multi-currency support is already in place and ready to switch on as the business grows beyond Ireland and the UK.
